What this sounds like to me is the Atheists don't believe in organized religions, nor do they believe in the God that those organized religions have created. And Dr. Peterson is saying God is a collective consciousness, but because he's cloaked in religion, i.e "Christianity" they will both continue to miss each other's points. Because Peterson's God seems to be outside of religion, but he also represents religion.

Watch yourself grow more, because when you start being an observer of yourself and you begin listening to yourself and watching your own choices and decision vs being an NPC. You become the main character taking a front row seat in your life. This is a beautiful moment and occasion.
